FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask first.

Why are rates so small?#

They are per epoch, and an epoch is about two days on mainnet. A rate of 0.0058% per epoch, for example, adds up to about 0.02% over a week of epochs. The app shows rates per epoch because that is how every payment is made.

Can I close a position early?#

Not by choice. Once an order is taken, the position runs until its market ends, until a side falls under margin, or until an epoch stalls past the delay limit. Before an order is taken you can cancel it in full.

Can I add to my deposit?#

No. Each side's deposit is fixed by the formula when the order is placed or taken. See Deposits and margin.

Do I have to settle every epoch myself?#

No. Crest's keeper settles positions as checkpoints become final, and pays out closed ones. The app also lets you do either yourself whenever one is ready, so you never wait on anyone.

Who pays the account rent?#

The maker, when placing the order. It comes back to the maker when the account closes, whether by cancel or by payout.

Does Crest charge a fee?#

No. You pay Solana's network fee on each transaction you send.

Which validators make up the index?#

A named cohort of up to eight validators, fixed when Crest was configured. The Index view lists each one and its attested stake for every epoch.

What happens if a checkpoint is wrong?#

Anyone can challenge it during its challenge window by posting a bond. The dispute authority rules: a rejected value is replaced by a corrected checkpoint, and the challenger receives both bonds. See Checkpoints and disputes.

Which wallets work?#

Any Solana wallet in your browser that supports Wallet Standard, such as Phantom, Solflare and Backpack.

Is there a token?#

Yes: CREST. Holders decide which markets open and how Crest is configured, and checkpoint proposers stake it behind every post. It was a fair launch, with no presale, team share or treasury. Swaps still settle in SOL, and you never need CREST to trade. See The CREST token.
