Quickstart

From a connected wallet to a settled epoch. Every step is a transaction you sign yourself.

  1. Connect a wallet#

Open the app and choose Connect wallet, then pick your wallet from the list. The app builds each transaction, your wallet shows it to you and signs it, and the signed transaction is sent to the network. Crest never sees your keys.

  2. Choose a market#

The rail on the left lists the markets in three groups: Taking orders, Running and Matured. You can place or take orders only in a market that is taking orders, which is any market whose first epoch hasn't begun.

  3. Read the chart#

Each bar is one past epoch's crest, from its final checkpoint. The dashed line is the fixed rate. Where a bar clears the line, the long side would have been paid that epoch; where it falls short, the short side would. Orders waiting to be taken float on the right at their rates.

  4. Make an order#

Choose Make an order, pick a side and enter a notional. Set the fixed rate by dragging the line on the chart, by focusing it and pressing the arrow keys, or by typing it into the ticket. The ticket shows what one epoch pays at the recent mean, your worst epoch, your deposit and the account rent. Choose Place order and sign.

  5. Or take one#

Pick an order in the book or a marker on the chart. You take the whole order at its rate, on the opposite side to its maker. The ticket shows your deposit. Choose Take order and sign.

  6. Follow it in Positions#

Positions lists your orders and swaps, each with a strip of its epochs. As each checkpoint becomes final the position settles: Crest's keeper usually does it, and the card shows Settle epoch whenever you can do it yourself. Once the position closes, Pay out sends both balances back.

What the tracker shows#

After you sign, a tracker at the bottom of the screen follows the transaction through five stages: Sign, Send, Confirm, Finalize and Update. Update means Crest has read the final result, so every page you look at already includes your change. See Wallets and transactions for what each stage means and what to do if one fails.

Before you size a position#

Read Deposits and margin. Deposits can't be topped up, so a run of epochs against you can close a position before its market ends. The calculator there uses the same formula as the ticket.
