Using the app
Wallets and transactions
Which wallets work, what you sign, and what each stage of a transaction means.
Wallets#
The app lists every Solana wallet installed in your browser that supports Wallet Standard, such as Phantom, Solflare and Backpack. Choose one under Connect wallet. The app remembers it and reconnects on your next visit.
The wallet menu shows the address and SOL balance, with Copy address and Disconnect.
What you sign#
Every action is one transaction:
| Action | Who can send it | What it moves |
|---|---|---|
| Place order | The maker | Deposit and account rent into the new order account |
| Take order | Any wallet but the maker | The taker's deposit into the order account |
| Cancel order | The maker | Deposit and rent back to the maker |
| Settle epoch | Anyone | One epoch's payment between the two balances |
| End position | Anyone | Nothing; closes a stalled position |
| Pay out | Anyone | Both balances to their owners, rent to the maker |
The app asks the Crest API to build the transaction from the chain's final state. Your wallet shows it, and you approve it there. The signed transaction then goes back through the API, which checks that every instruction in it is for the Crest program and that every signature is valid before sending it. The API never signs anything and never holds keys.
Five stages#
After you sign, the tracker follows the transaction:
Sign#
Waiting for your wallet. Declining here changes nothing.
Send#
The signed transaction is on its way to the network. The validator simulates it first; if the program would reject it, the reason comes back here.
Confirm#
A supermajority of the cluster has voted on the block holding it.
Finalize#
The block is final. On mainnet this usually takes under a minute.
Update#
Crest has read the final result, so every page already shows your change.
When something fails#
- Signature declined in the wallet. Nothing was sent. Try again when ready.
- A reason from the program. The chain moved on between building and sending, for example an order was taken first or a market started. Refresh and try again. Errors lists every reason.
- No finality after two minutes. The network may be congested. Look the signature up in an explorer before trying again, so you don't send the same action twice.
Fees#
Each transaction pays Solana's network fee, 5,000 lamports per signature. Crest charges no fee of its own. The ticket keeps a little SOL aside for fees when it checks whether your balance covers a deposit.
